Hey I'm Josiah. I started building boards out of curiosity and love for the objects in 2019 and immediately fell in love with the art, form & process.
I named this project Baker Surf as an homage to my entrepreneur grandparents—Harry and Ruth. Harry was the proprietor of Baker Music, a jukebox & cigarette machine business he ran for over forty years. Ruth ran a legendary record store called Recordland for thirty years where she introduced thousands of young Mainers to music.
I love building boards for myself, my friends, and perfect strangers. There is nothing better than seeing them show up on surf trips around the world.
Baker Surf is my personal expression of surf design. My aim is to create highly performant works of art and use them to share waves with like souls.
